1383 Main St was home to Johnson’s Bookstore from 1909 until it closed in 1998, with a 1914 art department building behind it on Market Street. It was planned as loft apartments in 2016.
Between 2005 and 2007, Glenn Edwards assembled the east side of Main Street in downtown Springfield between Harrison Place and Court Street. Chart repositioned the retail corridor along Main Street and revived the formerly vacant Market Street walkway behind the buildings, and in 2016 proposed market rate loft apartments tied to the MGM Springfield housing commitment. The portfolio was sold in 2021.
